Founded in Santa Cruz, California in 1973, Santa Cruz Skateboards is one of the oldest skateboard brands still active.
Santa Cruz is particularly well-known today for the legendary designs by Jim Phillips . The artist was Art Director at Santa Cruz in the 70s and 80s and during this time he created countless board graphics, the Santa Cruz Dot Logo and the legendary Screaming Hand Logo

The Santa Cruz skateboard team includes Erik Dressen, Erick Winkowski, Blake Johnson, Henry Gartland, Justin Sommer, Maurio McCoy, Salba, Yndiara Asp, Jake Wooten, Tom Knox, Emanuel Guzman, Fabiana Delfino, Tom Asta, Kevin Braun and Jeremy Knibbs .
Santa Cruz produces a wide range of skateboard decks . From "reissues", i.e. new editions of deck classics from the 80s and 90s, to shaped decks such as Erick Winkowski's Pro Model, to popsicle shapes. In addition to traditional 7 ply decks, Santa Cruz also offers Everslick and VX decks. Everslick was developed with Santa Cruz in the early 90's. Everslick is a thin layer of plastic attached to the underside of the deck that allows for easier sliding. VX decks are thinner, lighter decks pressed with only 5 plies of maple wood and 2 plies of Quad X. Quad X's are thin carbon/fiberglass plies with one placed on top and one between the 4th and 5th plies of maple. The result is a deck that promises greater resistance to breakage and more pop.
