Plan B Skateboards was founded in 1991 by Mike Ternasky. Ternasky was previously the team manager of H-Street Skateboards, but left the company due to differences with H-Street owner and former skate pro Tony Magnusson. With the help of Steve Rocco and his Dwindle Distribution, Mike's vision of a "super team" was able to become a reality.

There from the start were Danny Way, Colin McKay, Matt Hensley, Rodney Mullen, Mike Carroll and Rick Howard, Ryan Fabry, Sal Barbier and Sean Sheffey.

Within a year, Mike and his “Dream Team” managed to produce a skateboard video that would make history. The "Questionable" video, released in 1992, set new standards and brought a completely new perspective on what is possible on a skateboard. The innovation and development of tricks was progressing rapidly at this time, led by Rodney Mullen, among others. It was the time of “big pants small wheels” and technical street skating with incredible flip variations. Pat Duffy made his debut in the Questionable Video. The previously unknown amateur made people sit up and take notice with a groundbreaking part. His backside lipslide in the rain is still legendary today.

In the following years, Plan B Skateboards released 2 more videos: "Virtual Reality" and "Second Hand Smoke".

In 1994, Plan B founder and mastermind of the company died in a tragic car accident. Even though the brand continued to exist until 1997 and produced another video "The Revolution", even the team riders describe Ternasky's death as the end of Plan B.

In 2005, Danny Way and Colin McKay decided to carry on Mike Ternasky's legacy and, with the help of Syndrome Distribution, opened the second chapter of Plan B Skateboards. Following Mike's recipe, they put together a second "Dream Team" and recruited Pat Duffy, Paul Rodriguez, PJ Ladd, Ryan Gallant, Ryan Sheckler, Brian Wenning, Felipe Gustavo, Scott Dezenco and Torey Pudwill.
